The rose, being the most popular garden and cut plant, has over 20,000 cultivars in the Northern Hemisphere alone. This number originates from a conservative figure of only 150-200 species of wild roses. Fossil specimens found in both Colorado and Oregon show that roses have been growing for more than 30 million years to date. More fossil specimens were found in North Africa and are said to be at least 4,000 years old. Variant wise, only five of the massive figures above cut as the most popular: the Hybrid Tea, Floribunda, Grandiflora, Climber, and Miniature roses. Hybrid Tea roses were first cultivated in 1867 by a French nurseryman named Jean-Baptiste Guillot. He achieved the first Hybrid Tea by budding an old Chinese garden tea rose and a European rose. While it is not as fragrant as the other variants, it is safe to say that this rose is the most popular of all because of its wide selection of colors and its long stem that makes it ideal as a cut blossom. The Floribundas can easily be distinguished from Hybrid Teas because of their dense clusters and big, simultaneous blossoms sitting on its truss. It was first cultivated in 1909, crossing a Polyantha and a Hybrid Tea. This variant is generally easier to maintain than its parents, making it ideal for parks and similar spaces. The Grandiflora was first cultivated in the mid 1900s, crossing a Hybrid Tea and a Floribunda. Its stem is slightly shorter than a hybrid tea’s and its blossom’s size is midway its parents’. The Queen Elizabeth, the first Grandiflora, is still considered as one of the best variants of this rose class. All Old and Modern roses have their “climbing” counterparts. The canes of the Climbers’ shrubs are naturally more flexible and much longer than its bush form. Its form on Old Garden roses can generally be attributed to the natural growth habit while in Modern Garden roses, it’s actually an end result of mutating continuously. Most Climbing roses grow anywhere between 8-20 feet in height and needs to be “trained” to grow upwards by tying to structures. Miniature roses, similar to Climbers, are simply smaller versions of Old Garden Roses. This class of roses are usually twiggy in form with repeat-ing shrubs that grow anywhere between 6 to 36 inches in height. Its color range is similar to the Hybrid Tea’s and is usually marketed as houseplants.

The Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was selected on Wednesday as the NBA rookie of the year. He became the third Bulls’ player to receive this award, besides Michael Jordan and Elton Brand. In the general voting, he received 111 first-place votes and 574 points from a voting panel of sports writers and broadcasters.

The other players in the top five were O. J. Mayo of the Memphis Grizzlies, Brook Lopez of the New Jersey Nets, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Eric Gordon of the Los Angeles Clippers, but only the first three of them received first-place votes. The news was not a surprise to Bulls fans and players since Rose has been an amazing player that has brought many opportunities to the team; he helped the franchise to be on this year’s playoffs by having great performances on each of the games he had played.

Rose has been also a breath of fresh air for the team that has not been able to glow after Michael Jordan left. Before Wednesday, Rose didn’t want to say anything about the award; he actually said that he didn’t care about it, but the truth was that he did care and a lot, he wanted to win it more than anything this year. But he did not say it until he learned he was indeed the NBA rookie of the year. He also said that he knew that there were a lot of talented players out there to go against, but he always hoped he could earn it. Since the start of the season Rose has created a great impression with his talent and passion for the game. He was named rookie of the month in November, December and March.

He helped the Bulls to reach their fourth playoffs of the last five years and started it with a great contribution of 36 points and 11 assists in his team’s victory at the Game 1 of the first round against the defending champion Boston Celtics on the road; a praiseworthy accomplishment for the first playoffs game of his career. He has even been compared to LeBron James for his way of playing. “I think there are very few people in the NBA who could do what he did this year,” teammate Joakim Noah said. “You tell me another No. 1 pick who got to the playoffs in their hometown, especially in a big city with so many distractions and so many things going on.

I mean, he’s all about one thing and that’s winning basketball games, and that’s what I respect about himaE. Derrick Rose only played one year in the NCAA, recruited by Head Coach John Calipari with a scholarship at the University of Memphis.

He had some offers from the University of Illinois and the Indiana University as well, but he decided to stay at Memphis. As freshmen he helped the team to have a 33-1 record and led them to the National Championship game against Kansas, where they lost 75-68 in overtime.

He scored 17 points on 7aE”17 shooting, grabbed six rebounds and had seven assists in that game. Memphis finished the season 2007-08 with a 38-2 record and he declared for the 2008 NBA draft where he was the No. 1 pick overall selected by the Chicago Bulls.

Rose is enjoying a great moment on his professional career that is just beginning and the Chicago Bulls have all their hopes set over him. We will have to keep an eye on him to see what else he will do for his hometown team.

The rose is, by general consent, the queen of flowers. This is acknowledged even by those who specialize in such flowers as dahlias, chrysanthemums, sweet peas, carnations and many others. Why this should be is not easy to explain because, after all, most flowers seen through the eyes of those who grow them have an equal claim to be the most beautiful, and yet who would deny the pre-eminence of the rose?
It can be truthfully said that the rose is the only plant with which a complete garden can be made. One could fill a garden with any other kind of plant and thereby obtain a fine display of blooms, but such a garden would be dull and uninteresting except to the person interested in that particular flower. This would not be the case for a garden of roses.
The rose has not always held this unique place in our esteem, for it is the result of long, patient work by the hybridists who in the last fifty years or so have given us such diverse types, and have lengthened the period of flowering to an extent exceeded by no other flower.
The uses of the rose
The uses to which our modern roses can be put are many. There are the Ramblers of the Dorothy Perkins type, with their long pliable growth which can be trained to almost any position. When budded on to a tall stem to form a weeping standard they do not object to having their growth suspended upside down.
The Hybrid Teas are, of course, by far the largest class and still remain the most popular, and rightly so, for it is from these that the finest blooms are obtained. One can have these as dwarf plants for planting in beds or borders, or as standards, which are very useful for breaking up the levels, or as specimen plants.
In the last few years the Floribunda roses have forged ahead in popularity, which is very understandable considering the ease with which they are grown, their hardiness and very free-blooming qualities. This class is destined to become much larger in the next few years, and even now there are some new varieties embracing colours never yet seen before in the rose.
For the shrub border and wild garden there are the rose species, giving a glorious show of bloom in the early summer, to be followed in the autumn by a brilliant display of hops.
The rose is one of the few flowers that is beautiful in all its stages of development. Most other flowers are seen at their best only in their fully developed state. The rose, however, is beautiful from the time the sepals divide until the petals fall, each stage different and each charming.
In the range of color, the rose can more than hold its own, embracing as it does almost every shade except blue. Even that need not be excepted if one’s imagination can stretch so far as to describe Veilchenblau, the so-called Blue Rose, as blue.
Scent in modern roses
Nor is the rose lacking in perfume, in spite of the number of uninformed persons who write to the press deploring its absence. Although it is true that many modern roses are almost scentless, it is by no means a condition peculiar to the present time, for some of the most popular roses of the last century were entirely without scent.
Little appears to be known why scent should come and go in successive generations of seedlings, but I am confident that in time, scent will be present in increasing quantities. However, we are not so badly off in this respect, and it is possible to have a fully representative collection of modern roses, comprising every known type, without having a single scentless rose, although in doing so one would miss many varieties which provide masses of glorious colour.
More could be said about the wonderful world of roses, but all should agree that it deserves its title as “queen of flowers.”

There?s no doubt that the appeal of roses have stood the test of time, and perhaps we can find an explanation for this through Greek mythology. The minor Greek goddess Chloris came across a dead nymph and she was so taken aback by her beauty that she turned her into a flower. Aphrodite infused the new flower with beauty, the three Graces donated brilliance, joy, and charm, Dionysius added sweet fragrance, and the West win Zephyrus blew the clouds away so Apollo could bathe the rose in sunlight. The rose was then given to Eros, the god of love, and finally the Queen of flowers was born.?? Its intricate meanings make the rose a favorite gift of lovers and romantics. However, the red rose isn?t the only kind of rose that conveys the message of passionate love. The Narangha rose is an orange rose variety that connotes instant attraction and intense emotions with its smooth, vivid petals. Naranghas have hints of yellow and pink at the base of its large, blossoming head, and its rich warm colors contrast beautifully with its glossy green leaves. Long sturdy stems growing at an average of 60 centimeters characterize these flowers.? What makes this flower extra special is that its buds blossom to a full bloom in a short amount of time. This means that everyday, one can see its beautiful bud in different blooming stages ? a special treat for someone who is given this beautiful flower. Its soft, slightly fruity perfume also makes it a favorite of women everywhere. The best thing is, the Narangha rose variety is available in many major flowers shops and rose growers. The flower?s namesake is the Philippine word for ?orange? ? very fitting for a culture that knows how to love and love passionately. Romantic love for Filipinos is serious business. As early as the courtship stage, Philippine men spoil their women by showering them with ardent poetry, love songs, and of course, flowers. All these grand, romantic gestures indicate how much they are willing to care and nurture the woman in their life. It is no wonder that the Narangha variety is the most popular orange colored flower in the Philippines.A bouquet of long stemmed orange roses with subtle hints of pink is sure to bring a strong message of fervent romance and devotion. Why not brighten up your lover?s day by surprising her with a dazzling Narangha rose?

The Eternal Rose – Amorosa Rose – Single Red Rose £8.99

http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk/the-eternal-rose-single-rose.html

Find-me-a-gift have found the perfect flower to send for any occasion to your mum, your friends or to a loved one on Valentines Day. The Amorosa rose is a new concept in flowers and with tender care will last as long as your love!

To receive Fresh flowers is wonderful, but after a while they wilt and die; not very good as a symbol of your enduring love! The Amorosa eternal rose is different. Although it is a totally natural product, and looks and feels exactly like a fresh flower, unlike a fresh flower it will not fade, wilt or die. It’s all thanks to some clever people who have figured out an ingenious technique, using a glycerine-based solution together with natural food dyes, to preserve the beautiful flower. The Eternal Rose will live for years without water, as natural colour dyes and materials have been used to replace the water in the cell structure, to stabilise the plant. It feels soft to the touch, unlike dried flowers. This means that it will last indefinitely*, without a single drop of water, as a lasting token of affection and love. The Eternal rose the perfect everlasting flower.

Red roses are the ultimate symbol of romantic love and not only do they only speak of passion, but also stands for noble values such as respect and courage. The amorosa single red rose embraces this meaning completely.

Each rose is packaged in cone wrap decorative packing and shipped in dark hunter green leather look finish postal tube with black end caps.

*If properly cared for, preserved flowers need very little care other than gentle dusting. They will last for many months provided that they are kept away from direct sunlight and wet or humid atmospheres, which can reverse the osmosis process and cause some of the colour dyes to ‘leach’ (this is not harmful but may stain surfaces).

Kronos is an Australian rose variety known for its warm, pale yellow petals and subtle perfume. The Kronos rose is among the one hundred and twenty flower species developed by the Australian Man of Roses Alister Clark. While most rose breeders in the mid-1800?s focused on the finding the rose with perfect color, scent, or form, Alister Clarke was more interested in making use of the continent?s temperate climate for cultivating flowers.? A rose from the Himalayas and Burma called R. Gigantea was the father rose of his breeding program. Due to its sensitivity to cold weather it was not very popular among European rose breeders, although it flourished well in Mediterranean countries. In Australia, Clark discovered that the R. gigantea could climb up to twelve meters through trees.? From the R. gigantea, Clark was able to successfully breed garden-variety roses, among which are the Nancy Hayward and the Lorraine Lee.?? After Alister Clark?s death in 1949 however, many of his rose species were lost since he was unable to pass on his secrets to an apprentice breeder. Fortunately, two rose breeders were able to recover about 47 of Alister?s roses from the families of the women who were named after the flowers, and the Kronos rose was one of them.? The popularity of Kronos roses is not just limited within the borders of Australia. Rose enthusiasts across the globe love these blooms for the sweet memories their sunny yellow color evokes. The Kronos rose variety has spread throughout the world grown by popular rose suppliers and distributed by major flower traders and florist. Kronos is a favorite among European farmers in? England, France and Holland.? South American farms in Equador and Columbia export this flower to various American states. In Asia, flower farms in the Philippines, Vietnam, and India supply this popular flower variety.Unlike other rose colors that convey passion and romantic love, yellow roses send messages of devotion, appreciation, gratitude, and platonic love.? Kronos roses are a beautiful way to express thanks, congratulations, to brighten up a bad day, or to simply bring a smile to someone?s face. Yellow roses also represent renewal and convey the desire to start all over again to achieve a better tomorrow, making them ideal to give as an apology or peace offering.??? You don?t even need an occasion to buy a bouquet of Kronos roses for yourself, as they make gorgeous centerpieces for your bedroom or living room.? Send a friend a bouquet of Kronos roses today and let him or her know that you care.

A single rose is the perfect gift for a first date, an anniversary, or simply to say,’I still love you’ for no occasion at all . Red roses are, of course, the final symbol of love. But roses are not just red-they also come in attractive hues of pink, white, yellow, orange, and lilac or purple. White roses represent innocence and pureness. Many girls select white roses for their wedding and later a husband who remembers this and sends his better half a white rose will go a long way toward keeping her heart with a beautiful note sharing his romantic reminiscing about their special day. It is a pretty way to celebrate an anniversary. On a more serious or somber note, white roses are also really applicable for the funeral of a young kid, again symbolizing purity, youth, and innocence. Pink roses are favored for many reasons. They are infinitely female and girly, elegant and refined, the perfect picture of grace. A spray of 16 pink roses would make a stunning statement to a beloved girl on her Sweet Sixteenth birthday. Likewise, they are often included in many wedding bouquets or bouquets sent for any reason. Alone or mixed with other flowers in pastel shades, they make a striking arrangement any lady would like. Another favourite rose silver spring maryland color is yellow. A yellow rose indicates warmth, fellowship, caring, and concern. Sending a single yellow rose or a bouquet containing yellow roses is an attractive expression of simplicity-perfect for a gift to a squeeze on her birthday, to celebrate a new home or a new job, or to just brighten her day. Though more tough to find, rose silver spring Maryland also come in orange and lilac or purple. Orange roses symbolize passion, energy, excitement, and desire. They seem to be a lovely flower from a secret admirer or the perfect component in a flower posy to assert,’Will you go out with me?’, or on Valentine’s Day,’Will you be mine?’ Flowers are quite potentially one of the easiest ways to speak the language of love without words. If you’re not well versed in this language, a visit to a florist may be in order. Whatever what you need to assert, chances are they will help you say it with a rose silver spring, Maryland has florists that will help you demonstrate your feelings to the women of their community-or they will help you send a tiny love long distance with an arrangement to be delivered anywhere in the country if the woman in your life isn’t local.
